The Big ONE!

Well, on Friday my baby boy turned 1 year. He woke us at 7am and Jeremy and I entered with the video camera to sing Happy Birthday. He ate his first iceless cinnamon roll for breakfast, rather than the typical bagel or waffle. I had to jazz things up a bit, for Pete’s sake, it was his birthday! Friday night we went to dinner with some family that had arrived for the birthday party. We ate Mexican food because I am pretty sure that homemade flour tortillas on are on the top of Holden’s list of favorites. And then the real fun began on Saturday. We had his little party. Holden was introduced to his new best friend, buttercream icing. And life for him has never been sweeter! I really was not sure how Holden would handle the cake. It wouldn’t have surprised me if he pushed it off his highchair tray (which he sort of attempted). He doesn’t like messy hands, so I just didn’t know what he would do. I gave him a small pinch of cake and icing and it was clear that he loved it. So he spent many minutes trying to eat the cake without using his hands. Eventually, he let lose and dug in. And then after all that sugar had hit his system, he was beating the cake like a drum. It was quite entertaining! He knew all eyes were on him and I think he enjoyed the spotlight. Thanks to all of you that celebrated this day with us.
Unfortunately for me, I did not make it through the party without tears. And so, our friends and family had to see the ugly cry. For the past week and a half, Jeremy and I have been reflecting back on where we were last year. I want to always reflect back and remember the pain, the loss, the waiting and the process. I think that remembering the painful parts, allows us to remember the miracle. And that is what this boy is. Holden is our miracle. Enjoy the party pictures.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures. What a little ham! I can't believe it has been a year since I got the call from you I will never forget (technically I first got the call from Sarah, but lets not talk about that, hee hee). Hearing that God had finally answered your prayers and was blessing your family with a sweet boy was such an exciting moment. Happy Birthday sweet Holden.
