mosquito bites.

Look what mosquito bites do to Holden. They are evil!

(right side of forehead) Anyone else have this issue?

Mosquitos LOVE Holden (and Jeremy) and they could care less for Pax and I. Jeremy just gets typical bites but Holden has this reaction to them. Poor fella! The swelling freaked us out the first time we noticed it this summer. It was on the bottom of his foot and his arch had disappeared from the swelling. Our pediatrician was convinced two different times this summer that Holden had a staph infection from the insect bite. But after testing him both times, he decided that this is just his reaction to mosquito bites. We have learned that 1/2 teaspoon of Children's Benadryl makes the swelling go down pretty quickly. But it's ugly, huh? I hope he will eventually outgrow this reaction because there is no possible way to completely avoid mosquitos during the Texas summer.

Molly gets really bad bites too. We have a Rx cortisone cream, but benadryl works best. The 2 prior summers she got REALLY bad ones, one made a red "band" all around her calf. Those bites got small hard blisters in a cluster. It was awful, and it hurt her. Now hers look like Holden's. Each summer it's getting better, so I have hope. I get really bad reactions too, even as an adult :(

Thomas has pretty bad reactions to mosquitos, but they seem to be getting better each year. Now he just gets a big reddened area. Our biggest issue now is that they really itch and so he will scratch them until they are infected. Benedryl cream or "itchstick" work the best...that and bandaids! I hope Holden's keep getting better too!

no fun! Mosquitoes love Matthew as well-- Nana took him over to a neighbors to feed fish one night, and he came back with 5 bites- they didn't swell as bad as Holden's-- but it took forever to heal. I've started spraying him with Avon's Skin-so-soft anytime we're out at dusk-- and it's helped keep them off (thankfully!)

A man after my own heart! I am allergic to those nasty pests, too! When I was a child, they had me on a Rx (a little black triangular pill). The good news is, he will outgrow those welps...kinda.... He will just need to have 100% Deet for the rest of his life when he goes outdoors!
